Source: illumistrationsThe Dark Side Of Posting Original Artwork Online
So thanks to ThatSexyBlackChick, I found out about this website called African Animations Forum. And when I did a google search for the site, and clicked on the link, the FIRST thing that popped up on that page was my African American IronWoman image….with no credit to me whatsoever.
See, I don’t mind people using my images IF:
- They credit me
- Link back to my site or the original URL
- Contact me first for permission
None of those happened, and thats where I take a huge exception. I don’t mind people using my artwork…let me first make that clear. And if you commission something from me, then you can do with it whatever you please, just as long as you’re not claiming it as your own, or making profit from it. But come on now, its HARD ENOUGH for some freelance artists to get exposure as it is…and to just browse the net, and knowingly take an artists work and not credit them…thats just plain disrespectful.
Just because you find an image through a Google search DOES NOT make it public domain.
If you see another artist’s work that you would like to use or post online, please try and get in contact with them first. And if you can’t do that, the least you can do is link back to them. Matter of fact, even if you do get in contact with them, always link back to them. That’s just proper etiquette.
Swiper no swiping.
